Russian athletes have been granted access to international competitions in 31 sports, and active work is underway, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko in an interview with RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the SPIEF.

“International federations have already given our athletes permission to participate in 31 disciplines, so the ice has been broken, so to speak,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

He added that Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev is conducting large-scale work in this direction. Thus, according to him, the moment of the newly elected President of the International Olympic Committee Kirsty Coventry's inauguration is extremely important now, and her position will largely determine the approach of international federations when deciding on the admission or non-admission of Russian athletes to international tournaments, Chernyshenko summed up.

Earlier it became known that athletes of our country's luge team will not be allowed to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy even as neutral athletes. This was announced on Wednesday by the International Luge Federation after a vote of its members.
