Automotive exports reached $2.7 billion in August

The Turkish automotive industry achieved $2.733 billion in exports in August. According to a statement from the Uludağ Automotive Industry Exporters' Association (OİB), August exports of the automotive industry, the leading sector in Turkey's exports, increased by 1.3 percent compared to the same month last year, reaching $2.733 billion. The automotive industry's exports between January and August also increased by 12.9 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching $26.547 billion. The sector's share of Turkey's exports was also 12.5 percent. SUPPLY INDUSTRY EXPORTS EXCEEDED 1.2 BILLION DOLLARS The August exports of the "supply industry", which is the largest product group in sector exports, increased by 1 percent to 1 billion 221 million dollars. "Passenger cars" exports decreased by 2 percent in August to 705 million dollars, "motor vehicles for the transport of goods" exports decreased by 9 percent to 366 million dollars, "buses-minibuses-midibuses" exports increased by 26 percent to 272 million dollars and "tractors" exports increased by 19 percent to 127 million dollars. The August exports of the sectors whose exports are registered through the OIB and listed under the "other" heading were announced as 42 million dollars. EXPORTS TO GERMANY INCREASED BY 41 PERCENT In August, exports to Germany, the sector’s largest market, increased by 41 percent to $499 million. France became the second largest market with a 14 percent increase and $281 million in exports, while exports to Spain, the third largest market, increased by 59 percent last month, reaching $238 million. OİB Chairman of the Board of Directors Baran Çelik, whose opinions were included in the statement, stated that the Turkish automotive industry maintained its export leadership in August as well, saying, “We recorded double-digit increases in the tractor trucks and bus-minibus-midibus product groups. We achieved a 41 percent increase in exports to Germany and a 59 percent increase to Spain. By increasing our total exports to over $26.5 billion in the first eight months, we became the sector making the greatest contribution to Turkish exports.”
