All eyes on the meeting for the new minimum wage increase! When does the 2025 Minimum Wage Determination Commission meet?

The "Minimum Wage Determination Commission" meetings for the minimum wage are held every December. In 2024, the first meeting was held on December 10, the second on December 16, the third on December 19, and the last on December 24.

The minimum wage is defined as the wage paid to workers for a normal day's work, which provides a minimum level of coverage for essential and basic needs such as food, housing, clothing, healthcare, transportation, and cultural activities, based on current prices. An increase in the minimum wage also means changes in the amounts of many items, including unemployment benefits, severance pay, general health insurance premiums, military and maternity leave, voluntary insurance premiums, internship fees, and minimum wage sick pay.

The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, comprised of 15 members: five representatives from each employee, employer, and government. The commission meets on designated dates in December to determine the new year's minimum wage. The commission is chaired by a member designated by the Ministry. It meets with at least 10 members in attendance, and decisions are made by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the party chaired by the chairman is deemed to have the majority.
