Three new defendants have appeared in the case of the attempted murder of Simonyan and Sobchak

Three new defendants are now involved in a criminal case being conducted as part of the investigation into the assassination attempt on RT editor-in-chief Margarita Simonyan and journalist Ksenia Sobchak, TASS reports.

As noted, all three are minors. The court chose a preventive measure for them in the form of a ban on certain actions.

Earlier, Moscow's Basmanny Court told TASS that the defendants' pretrial detention had been extended until October 14, 2025. The young men are also accused of beating people of Asian appearance.

As the FSB previously reported to TASS, on July 14, 2024, members of the neo-Nazi group "Paragraph-88" were detained in Moscow and the Ryazan region, who were conducting reconnaissance at the work and residential addresses of Simonyan and Sobchak. During the investigation, the detainees confirmed the preparation of assassination attempts on the orders of the Security Service of Ukraine for a reward of 1.5 million rubles for each murder.

It was previously reported that eight people are involved in the case. In addition to preparing assassinations, they are accused of beating people of Asian appearance. During the searches, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, 90 rounds of ammunition, knives, brass knuckles, truncheons, handcuffs, Nazi symbols, literature, as well as equipment with data confirming criminal intent were seized.

Earlier it became known that the suspects in the assassination attempt on Margarita Simonyan and Sobchak were identified with the help of an examination of voice messages. According to the source, during the investigation an examination was conducted, the voices of the defendants were compared with recordings of phone calls.

Let us recall that it became known in July 2023 that FSB officers had prevented an assassination attempt on journalists on the orders of the Ukrainian special services. The suspects were charged.
