A citizen of another country can obtain a Russian passport in two ways, one of which is by signing a contract with the Russian Defense Ministry. This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, TASS reports.
Thus, a foreigner with a criminal record under a Russian court sentence can obtain Russian citizenship; this is possible after taking the oath of a citizen of the Russian Federation; another condition is the conclusion of a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense.
In addition, former citizens of Ukraine living in the new regions of the country that became part of the Russian Federation in 2022 may apply for Russian citizenship. They will be granted Russian citizenship if they renounce their Ukrainian passport.
Earlier, State Duma deputy and deputy head of the New People faction Sardana Avksentyeva sent a letter to Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev. In it, she proposed introducing an additional condition for migrants to obtain citizenship: paying taxes in the amount of at least 10 million rubles for the entire period of stay in Russia.
Recently, State Duma deputies adopted in the first reading a bill on expanding the grounds for depriving acquired Russian citizenship.
