All About Coco Jones’s Boyfriend, Donovan Mitchell

Actor and singer Coco Jones has been a well-known talent since she was a teen, appearing on Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing for the first time in 2010. She starred in the Disney Channel film Let It Shine in 2012, and now has a slew of film and television credits. As she’s grown up in the spotlight, Jones has received accolades and awards, including a Grammy for her song “ICU” in the Best R&B Performance category in 2024.

When rumors started circulating that Jones might be dating NBA star Donovan Mitchell, it seemed like a perfect match. However, the couple kept things low-key for a year before Jones confirmed their relationship in an interview with Shannon Sharpe on an episode of Club Shay Shay in March 2025.

When Sharpe asked Jones about the various sightings with Mitchell, the entertainer responded, “I love the internet because they definitely clocked my tea. Little spies everywhere. I’m happy and I will say, my music is my outlet where I tell my stories and my truth. Some things I keep for myself because this is my life, too. I say some things and you can hear it on my album.”

Jones continued, “Secrecy is not what I prefer. I don’t want to feel like I have to be somebody secret. I don’t want to make anybody feel like they’re mine. For me, I’m trying to protect myself, and I’m trying to protect my family and who I love, so I am more private.”

The star continued to share that she feels she gives a great deal of herself in her work and wants some things in her life just for herself—like love.

“I also feel like I give so much. I work so hard, and I will always do my part on the business side, the ‘Coco’ side, the singing side, the acting side,” she explained. “So why do I have to also give y’all something that is sacred to me when I give so much on that side? I just feel like it has to be balanced otherwise it’s not fair. What do I get for me?”

The pair clearly has something special they want to keep just for themselves, but here’s what is known about Mitchell and his connection to Jones so far.

The Cleveland Cavaliers star was born in Elmsford, New York, to Nicole and Donovan Mitchell Sr. He’s an older brother to his sister, Jordan, per his Louisville stats card from 2016. His mom was a teacher, and his dad was a former Minor League Baseball player. Nicole was particularly influential over her children’s education, according to an interview the mother and son did with the Salt Lake Tribune in 2018.

“In the house? School was a big importance. To me? Not so much,” Mitchell said. “I just loved recess, gym, and lunch. That was it. My mom was real adamant on me about it.”

From an early age, Mitchell was playing basketball as well as baseball, and in high school, he won games for Canterbury School in New Milford, Connecticut. For his junior and senior years, he headed to boarding school at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. While in school, he also played drums and sang in the choir, participated in the school’s musicals, and was one of the school’s prefects.

Mitchell went on to play basketball at the University of Louisville in Kentucky while working on a degree in communications. Another fun fact is that Mitchell’s nickname in college was “Spida,” and his Instagram handle now happens to be @spidadmitchell.

During his sophomore year at University of Louisville, Mitchell earned first-team all-conference honors in the Atlantic Coast Conference, according to his Olympics bio. In 2017, Mitchell declared for the NBA Draft where he was picked 13th overall by the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets immediately traded him to the Utah Jazz.

In 2022, Mitchell was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. In his first season, he became the seventh player to score more than 70 points in one game, during an overtime win against the Chicago Bulls. In an April 2025 interview for The New York Times, Mitchell’s coach, Kenny Atkinson, expanded on what makes him an asset to the team, aside from all the scoring.

“The thing that always comes through is that Donovan, he empowers others—subtly, not outwardly,” said Atkinson. “He’s taking a very unselfish route this whole entire season.”

In July 2024, Jones and Mitchell were seen together at Michael Rubin’s famous Fourth of July White Party, alongside stars like Tom Brady, Kim Kardashian, Jay-Z, and Odell Beckham Jr.. According to Times of India, Mitchell brought his sister, Jordan, and Jones was hanging out with both of them.

But as early as January, Jones was seen at the Paris Olympics, where Mitchell was playing with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In September 2024, they were spotted at an Usher concert in Las Vegas, holding hands. And Jones attended another courtside Cavaliers game in December 2024.

On July 11, Jones shared an Instagram post announcing her and Mitchell’s engagement. The image had no caption, but showed the couple sharing a kiss, lit from behind by the setting sun. Jones had her hand up on the NBA player’s chest, offering a glimpse of her diamond engagement ring. In the photo, she is wearing a strapless white bodycon dress and he is wearing a matching black-and-white set with a polo top.
