FC Porto reaches agreement with Martín Anselmi to terminate contract

FC Porto and Argentine football coach Martín Anselmi have reached an agreement to terminate the contract, signed on January 27 and valid until June 30, 2027, the club announced today.
"FC Porto informs its members, fans and sympathizers that it has reached an agreement with Martín Anselmi and his technical team regarding the terms relating to the termination of the roles previously held with the club," reads the statement from the 'blue and whites'.
Martín Anselmi had arrived at the 'dragões' at the beginning of the year, but left the team's technical command on July 1st, when the club announced the beginning of negotiations for his departure.
“FC Porto expresses its gratitude for the work, professionalism and commitment demonstrated by Martín Anselmi, and wishes him success in his professional and personal future,” the club concluded.
The 40-year-old Argentine replaced the dismissed Vítor Bruno, but never managed to establish himself among the fans, finishing the season with a negative record of 10 wins, six draws and five defeats in 21 games across different competitions.
Anselmi had been hired by André Villas-Boas' management, despite being a virtually unknown coach in Europe, where he arrived from Mexican club Cruz Azul, a club with which he terminated his contract in a contentious manner, with the 'dragons' later paying 3.1 million euros to put an end to the dispute.
In the I Liga, FC Porto finished in third place, after being eliminated, still with Vítor Bruno, from the Portuguese Cup and the League Cup, while in the Europa League the team 'fell' in the play-off for access to the 'round of 16', against Roma, now with Anselmi in charge.
After the conclusion of the I Liga, FC Porto, together with Benfica, competed in the Club World Cup, being eliminated in the group stage, without a single victory and leaving the United States as the worst of the 12 European teams in the competition, with two draws and one defeat.
The 'blue and white' team is currently coached by 36-year-old Italian Francesco Farioli, who last season managed Dutch side Ajax, who debuted in the I Liga with a 3-0 home win against Vitória de Guimarães on Monday.
