Suspect of killing woman in Porto is held in preventive detention

A 55-year-old man, arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing his 54-year-old wife in Porto, will await the outcome of the case in preventive detention, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported this Tuesday.
In a statement, the PSP clarified that the suspect was brought before the Criminal Investigation Court for the first judicial interrogation and application of coercive measures, having been placed in preventive detention.
The attacker was arrested on Saturday, at 11:10 pm, on Rua Gil Vicente, in Porto, for homicide, in the context of domestic violence.
According to the police, the victim was stabbed several times by the suspect and was transported alive, but in critical condition, to São João Hospital, where he later died.
“Witnesses to the crime were identified at the scene, which is currently under investigation by the Judicial Police,” the same note states, adding that the attacker and the victim are third-country nationals and have valid residence permits for Portugal.
