Government and aviation analyze Portela's expansion plan

ANA has submitted to the Government the expansion plan for Lisbon airport up to a maximum of 45 movements per hour, which will be analyzed by the regulatory authorities and competent entities in the aviation sector, it was announced this Tuesday.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Housing said in a statement that the plan “was delivered on time” by ANA Aeroportos on Friday, and that it “includes all the necessary investments to expand the declared capacity of Humberto Delgado Airport up to a maximum limit of 45 movements per hour.”
The report will now be analyzed by the Government, which, taking into account the “complexity and technical specificity of the matter”, asked the competent entities in the sector to assess the plan.
Once validated by the competent entities and approved by the Government, ANA will prepare the Environmental Impact Study, which will then be submitted to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).
The Humberto Delgado Airport Expansion Plan in Lisbon is the result of the Government's decision to increase Portela's capacity until Luís de Camões Airport, at the Alcochete Shooting Range, comes into operation, "which is expected to happen in about ten years."
"Until then, we must ensure that the limitations we have at Humberto Delgado are minimized and that we provide all users and professionals of this infrastructure with the best conditions of comfort and safety," emphasizes the statement from the ministry led by Miguel Pinto Luz.
Covering over 500 hectares, Humberto Delgado Airport has served Lisbon since 1942 and the plan is to decommission it once the new infrastructure on the south bank of the Tagus River is completed.
