Rome Will Restrict Access to Its Most Beautiful Attraction. Tourists Will Pay This Much

A trip to Rome without seeing this site is incomplete. Although the crowds that gather in front of the Trevi Fountain rarely allow one to enjoy it in peace, most people still find it impossible to take their eyes off it. However, the fountain is so crowded that the Eternal City authorities have been considering ways to restrict access for some time. These changes will soon take effect.
Fontana di Trevi. Until when will admission be free? The Roman authorities are planning to introduce an entrance fee to the square in front of the fountain for visitors from outside the city, which will at least partially restore this Baroque treasure to local residents. Corriere della Sera announces that the entrance fee (2 euros, approximately 10 złoty) will be valid from September of this year. Therefore, if you're in Rome in August, it's best to choose early morning or evening hours and don't forget to see this beautiful place for free.
On December 22nd of last year , the Trevi Fountain reopened after a three-month renovation. Much to the delight of tourists, the pedestrian walkway that had been used during the work was removed. Since then, a restriction has been in place – no more than 400 people are allowed access to the Trevi area at any one time. Under no circumstances are people allowed to enter or sit on the fountain. Eating, drinking, or smoking in its vicinity is also prohibited.
Another fee in RomeThis is yet another entry fee in the Eternal City. Just over two years ago, the last tourists were allowed to enter the Pantheon, the nearly 2,000-year-old temple to all the gods, without paying. As of July 2023, an adult ticket costs €5. However, the Trevi Fountain is the most popular attraction. According to data collected in the first half of this year, it was visited by over 5.3 million people , more than the Pantheon in all of 2024 (4,086,947 visits).
Organized entry to the Trevi Fountain square is available daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM (last entry at 8:30 PM); on Mondays and Fridays from 12:00 PM to collect coins, and every other Monday from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM for emptying and cleaning the reservoir. Admission is free after 9:00 PM. Some people plan their visit around dawn to take photos without other people in the frame.
