Manfredonia Rediscovers Siponto: The Crypt of the Basilica Among the Hidden Treasures of Puglia

Manfredonia will also be the protagonist of the 2025 edition of Tesori Nascosti di Puglia , the initiative promoted by the Puglia Region , UNPLI Puglia APS , the Fondazione Pro Loco Italia and Pro Loco Gargano , designed to enhance the lesser-known but strongly identifying cultural heritage of the region. At the center of attention, on the weekend of May 24 and 25, will be one of the most evocative environments in the area: the Crypt of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Siponto .

A journey between archaeology and spirituality

The event, organized by the Pro Loco Association of Manfredonia with the precious support of the Parish of Santa Maria Regina , will allow extraordinary access to a place full of charm and memory. The crypt, not normally open to the public, holds evidence of a sacred and thousand-year-old past and represents a fundamental piece in understanding the religious and artistic identity of the site of Siponto, the ancient heart of the city of Manfredonia.

Free guided tours will be organized, by reservation, on Saturday 24 May from 10:30 to 13:00 and Sunday 25 May from 09:30 to 13:00, divided into two shifts. The extraordinary afternoon openings , scheduled for both days from 17:30 to 19:00, will offer the opportunity to live the experience also in a suggestive evening atmosphere.

An immersive experience with the “Sound Bath”

The program is enriched on Sunday 25 May at 6:30 pm with a special event: the Sound Bath , an intimate sensory experience between vibrations, Tibetan sounds and silence, designed to accompany visitors on a meditative journey into the soul of the crypt. A unique moment to enter into a deep connection with the space, its history and its spiritual breath.

Proximity culture and local identity

The Siponto stage is among the fourteen selected for the 2025 edition of the Hidden Treasures of Puglia, a project that aims to promote slow, sustainable and authentic tourism , strengthening the role of local communities in enhancing their cultural and landscape riches. The Pro Loco , like the one in Manfredonia, are at the center of this process of rediscovery and narration of the territory.
