Climate well-being, Foggia only 42nd: Bari, BAT and Brindisi among the first 15 provinces in Italy

In Puglia, life is good also from a climatic point of view, but not everywhere. According to the ranking drawn up by Sole 24 Ore on climatic well-being in the Italian provinces, Foggia is only 42nd out of 107, marking a mediocre performance compared to the rest of the region. On the contrary, Bari , Barletta-Andria-Trani and Brindisi are among the first 15 positions, dragging the region upwards.
The Apulian podium: Bari, BAT and Brindisi at the topAt the top of the national ranking is Bari , which wins first place overall with an overall score of 744.3 . Following in second place is Barletta-Andria-Trani with 733.2 , and in eleventh place is Brindisi , at 690.9 . Lecce and Taranto do badly, respectively in 60th and 57th place.
Foggia below the regional averageThe data for Foggia is disappointing, with a score of 613.4, which places it in the lower part of the first half of the ranking. A result that probably reflects the combined effect of extreme summer heat, poor ventilation and intense atmospheric phenomena, with negative repercussions on comfort and health, especially in urban areas.
The data is even more evident when compared with that of provinces in Central and Southern Italy such as Pescara (3rd), Enna (5th), Ancona (6th) or Catanzaro (9th), which manage to obtain high scores even in complex territories.
The parameters analyzedThe study by Sole 24 Ore was based on 15 weather indicators developed by 3BMeteo , covering a ten-year period (2014-2024). These include: days with extreme temperatures (above 35°C), heat waves, intensity and frequency of precipitation, fog, wind and sunny days. Climate well-being, in fact, is determined not only by the average temperature, but by the overall quality of the atmospheric conditions experienced by citizens.
A Puglia with two facesThe picture that emerges highlights a Puglia split in two : on one hand, provinces like Bari and BAT that are among the most liveable in terms of climate in Italy; on the other, territories like Foggia that, despite having notable environmental and landscape potential, still have to face structural critical issues related to the urban climate, management of greenery and air quality.
A challenge that requires reflection also in terms of local policies and public investments: climate quality is increasingly becoming a fundamental indicator of well-being, health and territorial attractiveness . Foggia, currently in 42nd place, has all the means to climb the rankings. But a broader vision and careful planning are needed, capable of uniting the environment, urban planning and quality of life.
