Sky, DAZN and Co: Where to watch the Bundesliga on TV - and what it costs

The Bundesliga kicks off its new season this weekend. It's the first season after the new TV contracts were signed. Therefore, several things are changing compared to last season. Here are the most important questions and answers.

Where can you watch live matches on free-to-air TV? The first match of the season can be watched free of charge on Sat.1. The free-to-air channel will broadcast the opening match, Bayern Munich vs. RB Leipzig (8:30 p.m.). The match is part of a package of nine live matches on free TV. This also includes the Supercup, four relegation play-off matches, the opening match of the 2. Bundesliga, which has already taken place, and the original first division matches on matchdays 17 and 18. A swap was possible for these matches, so Sat.1 will now broadcast the Friday matches on matchdays 15 and 16. These are the last Friday match before the winter break and the first after. Where can I find summaries on free TV? ARD holds the rights to the first free TV broadcast with highlights on all matchdays. A new feature is the "Sportschau" on Fridays, which will show summaries of the 1. and 2. Bundesliga. As before, Das Erste will show the summaries on Saturday and Sunday in the "Sportschau".

ZDF will broadcast highlights on Saturday evening in its "Sportstudio," including footage from the top match, the first free-to-air broadcaster to do so. On Sunday morning, Sport1 will recap the previous days' matches. Highlight clips will be shown starting at midnight on Monday on ZDF and portals of the Axel Springer Group, such as Bild.de. Sky offers most live broadcasts of the 1. Bundesliga. The pay-TV broadcaster has added the Friday evening match to its schedule, which was previously broadcast on DAZN. The Saturday matches at 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. will continue to be shown in full on Sky. DAZN, however, will show the Sunday matches, 32 each at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. In addition, there will be 15 matches per season that begin at 7:30 p.m. Perhaps the most dramatic change is that the conference is no longer broadcast on Sky. The format, invented by the pay-TV broadcaster under its former name Premiere, will now feature DAZN's competition from 2025/26 to 2028/29. The football show, which first aired on August 12, 2000, has become a fan favorite over the past quarter century.

Sky is countering with new formats. With the "Multiview" option, customers can watch all parallel individual matches in a multi-screen view, along with the individual match commentary of the top match scheduled by Sky on Saturday afternoon.

RTL+ customers can also watch highlights from the 1. Bundesliga starting this season. The highlight clips are available for a fee on all match days immediately after the final whistle. The new Bundesliga highlight show "Complete" is available in an initial version every Saturday after the top match. An updated version of the show is also available on Sunday evenings, after the end of the matchday. Those who want a free choice of live broadcasts need two subscriptions: Sky and DAZN. The pricing structure is not particularly clear due to different subscription periods, although some offers are still available. Here are a few:

Sky's one-year Bundesliga subscription costs €29.99 per month and also includes the 2. Bundesliga. The DFB-Pokal is not included. For this, customers also need the sports subscription, which costs a total of €34.99 per month.
