The government complies with cybersecurity laws and enhances the protection of information assets

Fawzi Lekjaa, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance for Budget, affirmed compliance with Law No. 05.20 concerning cybersecurity. He reported that the ministry has classified its information assets and systems based on sensitivity levels and has introduced new projects aimed at strengthening the security of its information systems in line with directives from the National Cybersecurity Authority.

This confirmation was made in a written response to a question from parliamentary advisor Khaled Satti regarding the ministry's measures for updating information system security, emphasizing the ministry's involvement in Morocco's digital initiative since its inception. Lekjaa highlighted the development of digital services, applications, and various information systems and platforms dedicated to internal operations and major partners.

The response document, available to Hespress, noted that these efforts have led to enhanced efficiency and transparency, simplifying procedures and improving service quality in light of escalating cybersecurity risks and increasing reliance on information and communication technologies. Consequently, information systems security has become a priority for the ministry and a fundamental pillar for developing its digital services within the binding legislative and regulatory framework.

“Strategic and Operational Approach”

The ministry indicated that following national guidelines for information systems security, it has taken strategic and operational measures with support from various departments. Initial assessments of gaps and risks have been conducted, followed by a timeline for necessary interventions that include implementing security controls—organizational, technical, and environmental—which are continuously improved.

Simultaneously, the ministry's response highlighted the establishment of training programs and awareness campaigns, with the development of numerous security policies and protocols, conducting security vulnerability tests, and executing regular audits to ensure optimal protection.

The minister emphasized the ministry's execution of various technical and organizational projects that form a roadmap implemented through a collaborative approach among working groups comprising representatives from different administrative divisions, focusing on operations, techniques, and the human element.

Moreover, the minister noted the ministry's vital partnership with the General Directorate for Information Systems Security under the Ministry of Defense, participating in all projects led by this directorate and benefiting from a capacity-building program for its human resources.
