Cold season is approaching in Russia. It traditionally falls in autumn and winter, with the peak incidence from September to May. General practitioner Nadezhda Chernyshova told an MK correspondent how to prepare for the cold season.
"There are three aspects to preparing for the cold season," the doctor says, "firstly, right now we can start taking care of our body. The better our physical shape, the greater the chance that the body will be able to cope with the pathogens that cause colds, and we will either not get sick or will get over it in a very mild form. What should we do? Maintain a sleep and rest regimen, do not overexert ourselves. It is necessary to spend more time outdoors, even on cloudy days there is enough sunlight outside, which has a beneficial effect on the human body, including the immune system.
It is necessary to eat rationally: eat more seasonal fresh vegetables and fruits now. Now is a great opportunity to receive natural gifts without any effort, and thus nourish the body with all the vitamins and microelements that it needs. The more varied our diet is and the more fresh but unprocessed seasonal products it contains: greens, vegetables, fruits, the more benefit we can bring to the body.
Don't forget about physical activity. Moderate activity will also help us here. Walking, playing sports, swimming, playing outdoors, some beach volleyball, it's all great.
And finally, hardening procedures. The point of hardening is to teach our blood vessels to instantly react to changes in ambient temperature and avoid hypothermia. That is, to avoid heat loss and hypothermia, which in turn allows microbes to become active, and we get sick.
And what could it be? It could be walking barefoot on a variety of surfaces, swimming in cool waters, right now we are in such a period, and a contrast shower, at least for the hands or feet, or generally dousing with cold water.
All this is very good for boosting immunity and maintaining good physical shape."
