In Moscow, after a serious and prolonged illness, journalist, executive director of Rossiya Segodnya, and member of the Human Rights Council Kirill Vyshinsky died at the age of 59, RIA Novosti reports.

Kirill Vyshinsky was born on February 19, 1967 in Dnepropetrovsk. He entered journalism in 1996. In October 2006, he transferred to work at VGTRK, becoming a special correspondent in Kyiv. After the coup d'état in Ukraine in February 2014, he headed the RIA Novosti-Ukraine agency (Russia Today).

In September 2015, he received Russian citizenship. In May 2018, after the SBU searched RIA Novosti-Ukraine, he was arrested and thrown behind bars on trumped-up charges of "treason". Vyshinsky spent 470 days in prison. On September 7, 2019, he was released as part of a prisoner exchange between Moscow and Kiev. In October of that year, Vyshinsky became a member of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation.

At Rossiya Segodnya, Kirill Vyshinsky was the author of analytical and journalistic materials on the RIA Novosti website, headed Radio Sputnik, and was the executive director of the Rossiya Segodnya media group.
