Journalist Andrei Karaulov* ( recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation ) unsuccessfully tried to challenge his status as a foreign agent in court, assigned to him by the Russian Ministry of Justice in June 2023. According to court documents, the basis for inclusion in the register was his receipt of foreign funding for the distribution of politically oriented materials, RIA Novosti reports.
The Moscow City Court, which heard the complaint of Karaulov* ( recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation ) this summer, rejected his defense's arguments that he was simply expressing his personal opinion on current issues and was not carrying out political activity under foreign influence. The court upheld the Justice Ministry's decision.
In parallel, in the spring of 2023, a criminal case was opened against the journalist for carrying out entrepreneurial activity without registration (Part 1 of Article 171 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) in connection with the rental of 11 Moscow apartments. Currently, Karaulov* ( recognized as a foreign agent in the Russian Federation ) is put on the international wanted list.
Earlier, the court reduced the sentence of General Galimullin in the case of embezzlement on an especially large scale.
