Following the accident at the uranium enrichment center in Iran, Rospotrebnadzor is measuring the gamma background in Dagestan; the measurements currently comply with sanitary requirements, Rospotrebnadzor head Anna Popova told TASS.
Last week, Rospotrebnadzor introduced round-the-clock monitoring of the radioactive situation in the southern part of Dagestan due to a radiation leak in Iran. Popova specified that the measures were necessary due to the small distance (less than 1,000 km) from the city of Natanz. During the Israeli attack, as previously reported, the above-ground part of the uranium enrichment plant in Natanz was destroyed, and the IAEA recorded minor radioactive contamination inside the protective perimeter at the facility.
"And today these measurements show results that indicate that all measurements comply with sanitary requirements. But we will continue until the situation stabilizes," Popova said on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum ( SPIEF ).
Popova added that there was little data at the time of the accident and that there are now “many developments in the situation.” Rospotrebnadzor does not receive information promptly “at the time we would like,” she added.
