Life sentence requested for ex-MP in southern Kazakhstan

In Taldykorgan, the trial of a former deputy accused of violent sexual acts against a child is coming to an end. The criminal case is being heard in a closed session in the specialized inter-district criminal court of the Zhetysu region.
In the dock is a 41-year-old man who was detained in August last year. At that time, the suspect was charged under Article 121, Part 4 of the Criminal Code ( "Violent sexual acts committed against a minor" ).
As it became known, the parties have begun to debate the case in court, and prosecutors have requested a sentence of life imprisonment for the accused.
"The state prosecutor requested life imprisonment. The verdict is scheduled for February 27 of this year," the press service of the supervisory agency reported.
Let us recall that earlier, the police of the Zhetysu region detained a 40-year-old resident of the Aksu district on suspicion of sexual acts against a seven-year-old boy. In August 2024, it was reported that the case was taken under special control by the regional police department .
At that time, it was claimed on social networks that the suspected man allegedly previously headed the district branch of the Amanat party and was a deputy of the district maslikhat. At the same time, the name of deputy Serikkan Zhakupov was mentioned. According to the press service of the regional branch of the party, on August 1, 2024, the mentioned person left the party at his own request.
Earlier, the press service of the Zhetysu regional court reported that a preventive measure in the form of arrest for a period of two months was sanctioned for the suspect. The court did not specify the suspect's name, but indicated that his last name begins with the letter Zh.
"The court's ruling granted the request of the investigative bodies to sanction a preventive measure in the form of detention for Zh. for a period of two months. The suspect is 40 years old. The court's ruling has not yet entered into legal force," Nursultan Orynbasarov, press secretary of the Zhetysu regional court, reported earlier.
