Leaders Ajax had gone two games without a win – including a 4-0 defeat to Utrecht – but could have celebrated winning the Dutch league yesterday. However, just when things seemed to be going well, an unexpected turn of events took place: the leaders have lost 7 of their 8 points in the last three games – Ajax have 74 and PSV (2nd) have 73 – and the title race is wide open for the final two rounds.
Yesterday, the Eindhoven team were the first to enter the field and were trailing 2-0 after 10 minutes in the derby against Feyenoord. However, they managed a sensational comeback (3-2) in Rotterdam, thanks to a goal from Lang in the 90'+9. Shortly afterwards, Ajax were surprised at home (0-3) by NEC Nijmegen, much to the disappointment of the Amsterdam fans who already saw the title very close. Now, Ajax will try to hold on to their slim advantage in the two remaining rounds.
