Athletico escaped the loss of home advantage, but was ordered to pay a fine of R$20,000 for objects thrown by fans onto the Arena da Baixada pitch. The incident occurred during the 1-1 draw with Cuiabá on August 16, in the 22nd round of Série B, and the trial by the 2nd Disciplinary Committee of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) was held this Friday (17).
Rubro-Negro was reported under article 213 of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice (CBJD), in items I (disorders in its sports arena) and III (throwing objects onto the field) and in paragraph 1 (when the disorder, invasion or throwing of an object is of high gravity or causes harm to the progress of the sporting event).
The penalties were the loss of home field advantage for one to ten matches and a fine of R$100 to R$100,000. However, the majority of votes determined that Furacão would escape the loss of home field advantage and only receive the fine.
This way, Athletico escaped having to finish Série B without fans. The club will only have three more home matches: against Amazonas, Volta Redonda, and América-MG.
Athletico was judged by the 2nd Disciplinary Committee of the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD), this Friday, due to the events in the match against Cuiabá, played on 08/16.

The first incident occurred when Athletico was leading Cuiabá 1-0, with a goal from striker Renan Peixoto. In the 19th minute of the second half, according to referee Marcelo de Lima Henrique's report, "a lighter and a cup filled with clear liquid fell into the penalty area defended by Cuiabá EC and did not hit any players."
However, the worst of the situation occurred after the visitors' equalizer in stoppage time. Angered by another home setback, the fans threw more objects onto the pitch.
"At 50 minutes and 50 seconds into the second half, I stopped the match because flares, water bottles, plastic cups and lighters were thrown onto the playing field, landing near the Cuiabá EC-SAF team's goal area, requiring the intervention of the stadium's fire brigade," he said.
Furthermore, some Athletico fans attempted to invade the Arena da Baixada pitch. Dozens of security guards were called in to contain the risk of widespread mayhem, which seemed imminent.
Marcelo de Lima Henrique stopped the game and brought the end of the match forward. In the match report, the referee reported that he resumed the match with the ball on the ground after speaking with the match delegate, who confirmed the necessary safety measures.
