Luís Olivar Castanheira de Oliveira, currently Académica's number 1 and oldest member, has passed away at the age of 93, the club announced on social media.
In the publication, Académica informs that it “expresses its deep regret at the death of Luís Olivar Castanheira de Oliveira, at the age of 93, the oldest member of our institution”.
"A true academic, Luís Olivar Castanheira de Oliveira dedicated nearly eight decades of his life to Briosa. He served on the Supervisory Board elected on July 11, 1975, and was an alternate member of the Supervisory Board that took office on December 22, 1978, contributing to the association's life at various times," adds Briosa.
Admitted as a member on September 1, 1946, "his connection to Académica began after winning the 1939 Portuguese Cup and has never been broken. During his nearly 80 years as a member, he was an example of loyalty, passion, and devotion, passing this legacy on to his family and perpetuating the Académica Spirit from generation to generation," Académica emphasizes.
"His passing fills the entire academic family with grief, as they witness the passing of one of their most faithful symbols, whose life is intertwined with the history of Académica itself. To the bereaved family and friends, the Coimbra Academic Association (OAF) extends its deepest condolences, joining in the mourning and paying tribute to an exemplary academic, whose memory will forever remain linked to Briosa," the club concluded.
