Supreme Federal Court orders investigation into suspected insider trading in the foreign exchange market on the day of the tariff hike

Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered, this Monday 21, the opening of an investigation into the suspected use of privileged information that resulted in high profit rates in dollar trades on July 9, the day on which the President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced the tariff hike against Brazil .
The petition, filed by the Attorney General of the Union, Jorge Messias, reached the Court after the identification of exchange transactions in significant volume before and after Trump's announcement, which suggests the use of privileged information ( insider trading ) by individuals or companies.
The facts presented, in the opinion of the Attorney General's Office, may characterize the crime of “using relevant information not yet disclosed to the market, of which one is aware and which one must keep confidential, capable of providing, for oneself or for others, undue advantage, through negotiation, in one's own name or that of a third party, with securities”.
Moraes ordered the petition to be processed confidentially. The document was distributed directly to the minister because it is related to the investigation into the plot by federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) in the United States against Brazilian authorities.
Jorge Messias also requested that the Federal Attorney General's Office, an AGU branch that legally represents the Securities and Exchange Commission, adopt appropriate measures, including in conjunction with other national authorities.
