Matosinhos. Swimming at the beach is not recommended due to contamination.

Swimming at Matosinhos beach, in the Porto district, has been discouraged since Tuesday due to microbiological contamination of the water, according to the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).

Bathing is not recommended because tests have revealed the presence of pathogenic bacteria ( Escherichia coli and intestinal enterococci) in the water, a source from the Douro Port Authority told Lusa.

This is the fourth time since the start of the bathing season that bathing has been discouraged on Matosinhos beach , according to information from the National Water Resources Information System (SNIRH).

In 2024, the water at Matosinhos beach was classified as poor, after being considered acceptable in 2023 and good in 2022.

In the municipality of Matosinhos, in the district of Porto, the bathing season began on June 14th and ends on September 14th.
