Painting, photography, comics and cuisine mark the 20th Silves Medieval Fair

To mark the 20th anniversary of the Silves Medieval Fair , the City Council has prepared a “unique and special” cultural program, which will make the experience of visitors to the event “even more captivating and enriching”.
The day before the opening of the XX Silves Medieval Fair, August 7th, will be marked by the inauguration of three exhibitions that will be on display in the different cultural facilities located within the event's perimeter and that can be visited during the event, between August 8th and 16th.
With the opening scheduled for 6:00 p.m., at the Municipal Archaeology Museum, there is the exhibition of musical instruments, «Arts and Crafts: Complicities», which will be associated with the workshop of building and painting a lute, musical moments and declamation, taking place daily at the Municipal Archaeology Museum.
At 7:00 pm, in the entrance gallery of Silves Castle, the inauguration of the exhibition of miniature medieval war machines "The Art of War in Miniature" will take place.
Finally, at 8:00 pm, the Church of Misericórdia de Silves hosts the inauguration of the collective exhibition «20 Years of Silves Medieval Fair», a display of artistic photographs alluding to the twenty editions of the Silves Medieval Fair.
“Images that convey the history, magic, excitement and unique essence of the event,” says the municipality.
Also worth noting is the launch of the 2nd edition of the “History of Silves in Comics”, by master José Garcês, and the children's book, “From Xilb to Silves: stories from other times (re)told in our days”, by Mafalda Brito and Rui Pedro Lourenço.
Those who want to learn how to cook with other ingredients and experiment with different flavors can watch the "Cooking in Arabic" section daily, and those who want to learn oriental dance moves can do so at the Municipal Archaeology Museum, with dancer and fire artist Mónica Pereira.
