England. Dog rescued after four days trapped underground

Local firefighters used thermal imaging cameras but were unable to locate the dog. The rangers then decided to send in another Lakeland Terrier , Shrek, wearing a tracking chip "similar to the ones they use in avalanches," his owner reports. With the help of Shrek, who dug a hole near the curious dog's last tracking signal, they were able to rescue Sherlock alive, Mike McGrath told the BBC .
The search team on the surface reported hearing two dogs barking, and using the flare given to Shrek, they were able to locate them. Sherlock was slightly dehydrated but not seriously injured. He was immediately taken to a veterinarian and is considered stable, reports the Brampton Newsletter on Facebook.
The owners believe the dog was chasing a rabbit when it got stuck in the burrow and was unable to get out due to the width of the hole.
Gordon Bottomley, a volunteer with the Moorland Working Terrier Club who helped with the search, congratulates the ten-dog team, including his terrier, Shrek, who saved the missing dog. Bottomley added that terriers are the only breed that has gone underground searching for pests for many years, as they were bred for that purpose.
