Deaths from workplace accidents increase 80% in one year in Belo Horizonte, says ministry

Workplace accidents increased by 8.7% in Minas Gerais between 2022 and 2023 , according to the latest survey by the Ministry of Social Security . There were nearly six thousand new cases in just one year. However, the number of deaths decreased by 13% . In the capital of Minas Gerais, however, the situation is more worrying: the total number of deaths increased by 80%, and the number of accidents by 13.5% ( see details below ).
This indicates that although accidents have become more frequent, they have been less lethal ( see figures below ).

This week, a man who was working on opening new streets in Conselheiro Lafaiete , in the central region of the state, was crushed while operating a steamroller ( see video at the beginning of the report ).

The accident occurred on the night of June 24th, when the employee fell inside the structure and was covered by the ore. Firefighters and emergency medical services were called, but despite resuscitation attempts, Alice succumbed. The Ministry of Labor and Nexus Ligas reported that they have opened investigations into the case.
At the time, MIP Engenharia reported that it provided assistance to the victim's family, while Anglo American said it contacted authorities and offered support to colleagues and family members.
To avoid falling into a dam, the driver steered the vehicle into a mound of dirt, where it overturned, killing a 42-year-old man and injuring around 30 others . The companies involved expressed their condolences to the accident, provided support to the victims, and are cooperating with the investigation.
