Deaths from workplace accidents increase 80% in one year in Belo Horizonte, says ministry

This indicates that although accidents have become more frequent, they have been less lethal ( see figures below ).

In the capital of Minas Gerais, the situation is even more worrying. Belo Horizonte recorded a 13.5% increase in workplace accidents between 2022 and 2023. And, contrary to the statewide trend, the number of deaths also rose—an alarming 80% increase.

This week, a man who was working on opening new streets in Conselheiro Lafaiete , in the central region of the state, was crushed while operating a steamroller ( see video at the beginning of the report ).

The accident occurred on the night of June 24th, when the employee fell inside the structure and was covered by the ore. Firefighters and emergency medical services were called, but despite resuscitation attempts, Alice succumbed. The Ministry of Labor and Nexus Ligas reported that they have opened investigations into the case.

At the time, MIP Engenharia reported that it provided assistance to the victim's family, while Anglo American said it contacted authorities and offered support to colleagues and family members.
