More than 50 municipalities at maximum risk of fire

More than 50 municipalities in the districts of Viseu, Coimbra, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro are currently at maximum risk of fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
Several municipalities in the northern and central interior and the Algarve are still at very high risk of rural fires, and the remaining regions of the mainland are at high risk, according to the IPMA.
The risk of fire is expected to worsen on Saturday, according to the institute's forecasts.
This hazard, determined by the IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to high. Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and precipitation over the last 24 hours.
The IPMA forecasts partly cloudy or clear skies on the mainland today, with more cloud cover on the central coast and the Costa Vicentina until mid-morning and a slight rise in temperature, especially in the north and center.
Minimum temperatures will range between 13 degrees Celsius (in Leiria and Guarda) and 20 (in Castelo Branco) and maximum temperatures between 26 (in Aveiro) and 36 (in Évora and Santarém).
