Beach signs are misleading tourists. The authorities will fix this.

The Portuguese Environmental Protection Agency will maintain strict surveillance of the Algarve coastline. This is due to irregularities detected during a recent inspection in July. It was discovered that some hotels and coastal resorts were illegally placing signs on beaches indicating that access was reserved for guests and residents, misleading tourists vacationing in Portugal. Travelers from Poland, among others, have complained about such practices.
Beaches in Portugal not for everyone?Private beaches are a nightmare for tourists in many holiday destinations. It turns out this widespread problem also affects the Portuguese coast. "I've been to several beaches in the Lisbon metropolitan area and noticed designated areas where only guests of hotels adjacent to the coast were supposedly allowed," says one Pole, quoted by tvn24.pl. However, such practices are illegal, as confirmed by the Portuguese Environmental Protection Agency (APA).
During an inspection conducted in July on the coastal strip between Tróia and Melides, at least several irregularities were discovered. Signs announcing "private beach" were removed, and instead signs were erected announcing public access. Similar misleading information was also displayed near public parking lots. The organization announced that the monitoring will continue in the coming months.
Explosives on the beachesMeanwhile, in recent days, another threat to tourists has emerged in the Comporta and Grândola areas. This week, Navy divers deactivated three explosive devices hidden on the seabed near public beaches. "The deactivation was carried out through controlled explosions on site, and everything was carried out in a safe environment," Publico reports.
