That's when Iga Świątek is scheduled to play her first US Open match. Now she's been omitted.

The 24-year-old will begin her final Grand Slam campaign of the 2025 season against Emiliana Arango, which could easily be considered a favorable outcome. The Colombian, currently ranked 81st in the WTA rankings, has never faced the Raszyn native before. In recent months, she has struggled with her form.

Apart from her first-round win in qualifying in Washington against Anastasia Zakharova, the South American player last won on May 25. This happened in the first round of Roland Garros, when she defeated Alexandra Eala.

"A very difficult challenge. Emiliana Arango will face the world's second-ranked player, Iga Świątek, in her first match at the US Open. So far, the Colombian from Antioquia has played against opponents ranked highest at No. 7 – Qinwen Zheng and Mirra Andreyeva," wrote Match Tennis, a leading Colombian tennis website, shortly after the bracket was presented.

This is the 2025 US Open schedule for the first two days of the tournament

At this time, we only know the full schedule for Sunday (August 24th), the first day of competition. Defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula, and Jasmine Paolini will be competing on that day. The fight schedule for Monday (August 25th) has also been revealed, but for now, it's limited to the two largest arenas in Flushing Meadows, where Madison Keys, Karolina Muchova, and Mirra Andreyeva, among others, are scheduled to compete.

This means that Świątek and Coco Gauff will almost certainly not play their first match until Tuesday, August 26th. Theoretically, there's a chance the organizers will schedule these two matches outside the two largest arenas of the US Open, but such a scenario seems almost unrealistic. After all, we're talking about the world's top singles players, former winners of the tournament, and heavy favorites to win the title again this year.
