Jagoda Szelc has unveiled the first photos from her new film. Another unique project is on the way.

Award-winning director of films such as "Tower: A Bright Day" and "Monument," Jagoda Szelc is working on her next film, tentatively titled "Greasy." The director is currently at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, where she spoke about her project and also presented the first photos from the set.
"Greasy" is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Małgorzata Lebda, who collaborated on the production with Jagoda Szelc. According to the film's official plot description, the protagonist, Mauł, returns to her home village to care for her grandmother, who is dying of cancer. As the disease progresses and her grandfather's lack of help, Mauł reconnects with her past and the surrounding wilderness.
In addition to directing "Greasy," Jagoda Szelc also wrote the screenplay based on the aforementioned book, which has already been published several times internationally. The film adaptation of the novel, described as sensual, magnetic, and wild, stars Izabella Dudziak, Małgorzata Trofimiuk, and Cezary Żak.
When is the premiere of "Greasy"?"The main character, Maul, witnesses the end. She must come to terms with the fact that her beloved grandmother, who raised her, has decided to end treatment for a terminal illness. For me, this film is a heroic attempt to not distance ourselves from the impending destruction of the world. I know where we live and I have no illusions. This film doesn't offer easy hope. My heroine isn't looking for a way to survive. Her rebellion is simply being alive," says Jagoda Szelc in an interview with Variety.
The premiere of "Greasy" will have to wait a while longer. It's scheduled for 2027 , and the project is still in its early stages of development. Szelc is in Karlovy Vary as part of a new initiative aimed at promoting filmmakers from Central Europe. As she says, through "Greasy," she wants to challenge "the prudish portrayal of women's physicality and nature by presenting their raw, unromantic bodies."
