150 km of key railway line to the seaside to be renovated. It will start in the summer

- The works will be carried out from the budget of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe SA, and their completion is planned for December this year. Their scope will include, among others, tamping of tracks with a total length of over 150 km.
- The renovation will be carried out between June and December this year. Between September and November, the work will be carried out at night.
- In the second half of 2024, on the route from Warsaw to Tricity, PKP PLK has already carried out rail grinding at a cost of almost PLN 16 million. - This ensured smooth train travel at speeds of up to 200 km/h and allowed for reducing the impact of the railway on the environment.
Between Warsaw and the Tri-City , the fastest passenger trains run at speeds of up to 200 km/h . This is the shortest connection between the capital and Gdańsk and Gdynia . Only between Nasielsk and Działdowo , the section where the works are planned, more than 120 trains pass in both directions per day.
As explained by PKP PLK , the scope of works will include tamping tracks with a total length of over 150 km using a track regulation unit, the so-called DPUS, consisting of three machines - a tamping machine, a dynamic track stabilizer and a ballast scraper.

They will be carried out on tracks no. 1 and 2, on a nearly 80-kilometer section between Nasielsk and Działdowo . They will also include tamping 53 turnouts , replenishing 5,500 tons of ballast and replacing worn-out elements of 8 turnouts at the Iłowo, Mława and Konopki stations .
Krzysztof Wałdowski, Director of the Railway Lines Department of PKP PLK SA in Olsztyn, emphasised that carrying out maintenance works on previously modernised railway lines allows for guaranteeing good infrastructure parameters for the coming years and ensuring efficient and safe train traffic.
The implementation of works on line no. 9 is aimed at improving the technical condition of the surface, eliminating the risk of introducing speed limits and improving the safety of rail traffic.
- said Krzysztof Wałdowski.
The contractor will be selected in May, and the works will start in June. They will last until December. The commencement of works within the project entitled "Powering up tracks no. 1 and 2 with the DPUS team of line no. 9 Warsaw East-Gdańsk Main on the Nasielsk-Działdowo section" is planned for June. They are to last until December, with the difference that between September and November they will be performed at night.
- During the works, one track will be passable. In May, it is planned to select the contractor and sign a contract with him. The task will be financed from PLK SA's own funds - PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe informed.
Grinding the rails of 450 km of single track and 136 turnouts cost almost PLN 16 millionThey recalled that in the second half of 2024, the company had already carried out rail grinding on the route from Warsaw to the Tri-City using a special Speno machine. 450 km of single track and 136 turnouts were ground.
- This ensured smooth passage of trains at speeds of up to 200 km/h and allowed to reduce the impact of the railway on the environment, because the trains travel more quietly on polished rails - explained the company.
