If you plant autumn crocuses in August, they will bloom in September and October. It's striking that you only see flowers, and no leaves. Once the flower has finished blooming, the leaves don't appear until spring. The leaves grow and nourish the bulb. The leaves die back midway through the summer, after which the flowers emerge again.

- First, improve the soil with leaf mold.
- Then plant the autumn crocus bulbs 5 cm deep. Because the leaves grow quite large, plant them at least 15 cm apart.
- After planting, you can add another layer of leaf mold .
Tip! Contrary to what you see in the photo, it's advisable to wear gloves when planting, as every part of the plant is poisonous .

These bulbs prefer well-drained soil. So don't plant them in damp soil! That's also why it's better to use leaf mold than compost. Leaf mold is lighter and retains less moisture.
The flowers look beautiful in your lawn, under trees, or at the front of your border. The bulbs prefer dappled shade.
Autumn crocuses generally naturalize without help. But if you still want to propagate them, dig up the bulbs in the summer, as soon as the leaves have died back. You'll see that brood bulbs have formed around the main bulb. You can break these off and replant them.
