INE rules out hacking and ensures the integrity of its systems in the face of rumors

The National Electoral Institute (INE) clarified this Saturday that there is no evidence of hacking or anomalous activity in its institutional systems, following the circulation of reports indicating alleged unauthorized access to Mexico's electoral register .
In an official statement, the INE indicated that the incident in question corresponds to "an incident recorded last year, during the electoral process," and that it was promptly addressed and contained. The institution emphasized that the current reports of information being sold or compromised have no verifiable evidence .
The INE detailed that its institutional networks currently have multi-factor authentication (MFA) and other security controls, strengthened after the recent incident, which prevents the use of previous access or credentials .
Recently, a complete purge of active VPN accounts was carried out, complemented by the implementation of two-factor authentication for all personnel with remote access, reinforcing technological protection mechanisms.
In addition, the technical areas of the Computer Systems Technical Unit (UTSI) , in coordination with the Computer Security and Control Directorate (DSCI) and its cybersecurity provider, maintain constant monitoring of the technological infrastructure to prevent any intrusion attempts.
The INE reported on a working session with the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) to coordinate actions against potential threats, as well as a technical meeting with its cybersecurity provider to analyze the alleged data published on the dark web.
According to the institute, no information belonging to the INE has been identified so far , nor has there been any evidence to support the claims spread on social media. At the same time, the provider is conducting an independent analysis of the material circulating on the dark web, but its veracity or any type of intrusion has yet been confirmed.
As a preventive measure, a team of INE engineers is conducting technical inspections at central offices on the communications infrastructure and security components, especially in the network segments highlighted in the released versions.
The institution also noted that all necessary measures will be taken to rule out the existence of any backdoors or vulnerabilities that could compromise the security of its systems. The goal is to guarantee the integrity, availability, and protection of the institute's technological resources.
The INE reaffirmed its commitment to continually strengthening security and technological resilience mechanisms , ensuring citizen trust and safeguarding institutional assets . The entity emphasized that all actions taken seek to guarantee the protection of the electoral roll and the information of Mexicans.
With this statement, the INE seeks to reassure citizens and political actors about the security of the electoral processes and the reliability of its systems, emphasizing that there is no evidence of a breach at present .
The situation also highlights the importance of maintaining advanced technological controls and having rapid response protocols in place to address rumors or attempts at disinformation that could call into question the integrity of the Mexican electoral system.
