Football: Nigerian player falls from 3rd floor of shopping mall in Uganda and dies

Investigations have been launched by the police to shed light on this tragedy that affected Abubakar Lawal, a 29-year-old Nigerian player who died on Sunday, February 23. The Vipers Sports club striker fell from the third floor of a Voicemall Shopping Arcade shopping center located in Entebbe, the former capital of Uganda. Through a post on social networks, the local police announced that he was joining a friend, staying in a hotel room. The latter indicated that she had left the hotel shortly before the tragedy.
Investigators are in possession of several testimonies and CCTV footage to try to shed light on this brutal disappearance. After starting his career in Nigeria, first at Wikki Tourists then at Nasarawa United, Abubakar Lawal, a 1.83m right-hander, had passed through AS Kigali in Rwanda before joining the Vipers in 2022. He had played eight matches this season with this team based in Wakiso in Uganda, about forty kilometers from the capital Kampala.
On social media, his club paid tribute to him: “Abubakar Lawal was a unique person. He had a big heart of gold. He truly cared about people and went out of his way to help them. He was incredibly generous. He was a beautiful soul and we will miss him greatly.”
