INE proposes fines of more than 34.3 million pesos against political parties for improper affiliations

The Complaints and Denunciations Commission of the National Electoral Institute ( INE ) is preparing fines of more than 34.3 million pesos against various political parties for improperly affiliating dozens of people between 2021 and 2025.
In resolving 129 Ordinary Sanctioning Procedures, the Complaints and Reports Commission said it had identified 119 cases related to alleged improper affiliations involving 897 people; however, it detailed that 24 of these people withdrew their complaint; while in 561 cases, the infraction was not proven, since the parties presented documents that demonstrate their willingness to affiliate.
Thus, the sanctions involve only 310 people , since in these cases it was possible to prove the infraction for the misuse of their personal data and the violation of their right to free affiliation by various parties.
In this regard, the president of the Complaints and Denunciations Commission, Arturo Castillo Loza, pointed out that, if the 129 procedures are approved by the General Council of the INE , the proposed sanctions would represent an accumulated amount of 34.3 million pesos.
This was because the political parties did not present valid proof of consent or the proofs had inconsistencies to carry out the affiliations.
Likewise, the Complaints and Denunciations Commission of the INE addressed specific issues such as the improper registration of polling station representatives of the Labor Party (PT); in the first case it proposed to dismiss the matter due to withdrawal and, in another, an economic sanction for not proving the will of the citizen.
In another matter, it was announced that the Executive Directorate of Prerogatives and Political Parties would be notified, as an infraction by the Movimiento Ciudadano party was proven for omitting information, on the dates established in the agreement of the General Council, regarding the gender of the candidates for the Head of Government of Mexico City, the governorships of Jalisco, Yucatán, Tabasco and Veracruz, for which reason it is proposed to impose a public reprimand on the party.
Similarly, the Commission highlighted the efforts of the Technical Unit for Electoral Disputes (UTCE) to make progress in addressing the backlog of these procedures.
Finally, eight cases were reserved for separate voting , due to the expiration of the cases, as more than two years had passed without resolution.
However, they approved referring the matter to the Executive Directorate of Legal Affairs so that it may initiate the corresponding procedure and, if appropriate, assess whether to refer the matter to the Internal Control Body (OIC), so that it may determine what is legally appropriate in cases of delay in the resolution of these matters.
