Family tragedy: Father recounts how his son stabbed his seven-year-old brother

The incident that has caused alarm in Zone 5 of the capital, in which an 11-year-old boy stabbed his 7-year-old brother, has revealed new details with the testimony of the father of the affected children.
In an interview with journalist Juan Víctor Castillo , the father described how the hours before the fateful event unfolded.
According to the father, he went with one of his older sons to do some gardening. Meanwhile, the 11- and 7-year-old boys went to church first with their mother.
“After finishing the gardening work, we headed home to get ready and arrived at the church around 11:15. It all happened before noon,” the priest recounted, visibly shaken.
According to reports, the 11- and 7-year-old boys were under the supervision of his wife in a sort of daycare center within the church. There, she also cared for other children who attended Sunday activities. While playing, the older son grabbed a table knife and accidentally injured his younger brother.
The father stated that “several people who were in the other room explained that the knife was a kitchen knife.”
The injured minor was rushed to a medical facility, but unfortunately died from his injury.
The case has caused a great public outcry, as it involves two minors and occurred in a community setting. Officials from the Attorney General's Office (PGN) informed Publinews that the 11-year-old boy was placed under protective measures and entrusted to his extended family. It should be noted that, according to Guatemalan law, minors under 13 cannot be held criminally responsible.
So far, the church, The People of God Most High International Ministries, has not issued a statement on the matter.
