A viral video leads the Civil Guard to rescue a dog abused by its owner in Calaf (Barcelona).

The Civil Guard is investigating a 28-year-old Moroccan man for abusing his dog in Calaf (Barcelona). Thanks to a viral video shared on social media, officers were able to identify the individual and rescue the animal, which is now receiving veterinary care at a shelter.

In the footage, recorded on August 3 at the Rodalies de Calaf station, the individual can be seen hitting the animal, a Belgian Malinois, with a leash, kicking, and punching it while it is lying on its back. On several occasions, the individual drags it by its collar or by its front legs.

The video, shared widely on platforms like Instagram and Twitter, sparked a wave of social outrage and multiple calls for help identifying the man. Following its release, a Civil Guard Seprona patrol began investigating to try to identify the man and rescue the dog.

Thus, on August 6, the agents managed to identify the individual, in coordination with the Calaf City Council - responsible for the management and protection of animals in the municipality - and removed the dog, which was transferred to a shelter in Odena (Barcelona), where it now receives veterinary care and remains under supervision.

Yesterday, August 8, the suspect testified as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of animal abuse , which carries prison sentences of up to 18 months , fines, and disqualification from owning animals, especially if it is proven that the injuries seriously affect the animal's health or it is subjected to conditions of abandonment, exploitation, or violence.

In addition to the physical attacks, officers found that the animal lacked an identification microchip and required documentation, which constitutes a serious administrative violation for which the owner will also be proposed for sanction.
