Colon cancer is increasing at an alarming rate, especially among young adults. One expert identifies five symptoms that shouldn't be ignored.
Scientists worldwide are observing a worrying increase in colon cancer among young adults . While this type of cancer has previously primarily affected older people, it could soon become the leading cause of cancer death among young adults. According to Unilad , physician Dr. Grant warns of five symptoms that could indicate this dangerous disease.
Symptoms include changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, bloating, persistent fatigue, unexplained weight loss.
Dr. Grant emphasizes: "Changes in bowel habits can be a clear indicator of colon cancer." He recommends consulting a doctor if diarrhea or constipation persists.

Blood in the stool is often mistaken for hemorrhoids or anal fissures, but it can also indicate colon cancer. "Anyone who notices blood in their stool or experiences pain when going to the toilet should seek medical advice," says Dr. Grant, according to Unilad. Bloating, especially in women, is often caused by menstruation, but can also be a symptom of colon cancer.
Persistent fatigue can be a result of internal bleeding or anemia. Unexplained weight loss can also indicate serious health problems. Dr. Grant emphasized to Unilad: "Rapid weight loss without lifestyle changes can be a warning sign of colon cancer."

Colon cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in Germany. The risk is particularly high among older men and women. Regular screenings , such as colonoscopy, have contributed to reducing the incidence of colon cancer since 2003.
The causes of colon cancer are diverse . They often arise from benign growths of the intestinal mucosa, so-called colon polyps, which can become malignant over time.
Risk factors include age, a low-fiber diet, lack of exercise, obesity, and alcohol and tobacco consumption. Two body types in particular have an increased risk of colon cancer . In addition to general risk factors, hereditary predisposition also plays a role in some forms of colon cancer.
