More than 45 years after Alien raised screams in theaters, the franchise has done it again on the small screen. Alien: Earth, now airing on FX and streaming on Hulu, has been the belle of the TV ball lately; Fargo creator Noah Hawley's take on the mythos is widely credited with reinvigorating the universe. But after a buzzy first season, just when will there be a season 2? Turns out, Alien: Earth fans won't have to wait long before another round.

As of right now, there isn't official word regarding Alien: Earth season 2 just yet. However, Hawley has openly talked about his plans for a new season.

In an August 2025 interview with the YouTube channel Evolution of Horror, Hawley said he has an idea where to take the story after season 1. "I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I'm telling, what it means," Hawley said.

Hawley elaborated that he hopes to "streamline" production so that even with the show's complicated production process (from visual effects to set design and construction, among other things) fans aren't left waiting too long between seasons. He said, "And I don't know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success. And, you know, the question becomes: How streamlined can we make the process so that you're not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?"

Despite being a spin-off of a long-running film franchise heavily associated with sci-fi horror—a genre with a huge barrier to entry, with even Sigourney Weaver admitting she can't watch the show aloneAlien: Earth has been one of the biggest hits of the year. Massive critical acclaim and a premiere that raked in 9.2 million viewers are proof that Alien: Earth is out of this world, jump scares and gross-out gory sequences be damned. But will the show maintain its upward trajectory, or will it go down in flames? In space, no one can hear you change the channel.
