Woman dies after crash in Woodfield area of London and truck fled police
A 67-year-old woman has died after being injured in a two-vehicle car crash on Sept. 10 that involved a pickup truck fleeing from police in the Woodfield neighbourhood of London, Ont.
The woman was in an SUV with a 70-year-old man when the crash occurred near Queens Avenue and William Street around 3 p.m. ET. Both were sent to hospital with serious injuries, police said, along with a 45-year-old passenger who was riding in the bed of the truck.
The woman died on Thursday, according to an update from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), the province's police watchdog, which has been investigating the incident.
Police first saw the pickup driving near King and Maitland streets with the person in the bed of the truck, officials said. The driver of the vehicle drove away when an officer in a cruiser tried to pull the pickup over.
Officers then arrived to the scene of the crash to find the driver of the pickup had already fled on foot, an SIU spokesperson said.
A fourth person was also sent to hospital with minor injuries, but it is unclear if that individual was a passenger in one of the two vehicles.
No additional information has been released on the condition of the other injured people who remain in hospital or the whereabouts of the suspect who fled from police.
The SIU is asking anyone who has information about the crash, including video or photos, to contact them by phone or online.
