London man charged in shooting north of downtown core

London police have charged a local man as the result of their investigation into a shooting that happened early Monday morning.
Shortly before 6:30 a.m., a local hospital contacted police to say a man had arrived with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries from a gunshot wound, police said.
Police learned the shooting happened between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. at a residence in the area of Adelaide Street North and Piccadilly Street. While at the residence, the victim spoke with several men unknown to him, police said. During this interaction one of the men produced a firearm and shot him.
The suspect was found and arrested shortly after 7:30 a.m. in the same area. Police found he was carrying a loaded handgun at the time.
A 23-year-old is facing numerous charges including aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent to wound.
He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court Wednesday.
The investigation is ongoing.
