Japanese automotive giant Honda is establishing a factory in Turkey!

Japanese automotive giant Honda is looking for a place to manufacture scooters in Turkey. The new tax system introduced in February has caused major price increases, especially for motorcycles. As of 2025, the prices of imported motorcycles have skyrocketed compared to last year. While some companies reflect the new taxes on their labels, others prefer gradual price increases.
Companies that manufacture in Turkey in the scooter segment are more profitable in terms of taxes. According to Habertürk, Japanese manufacturer Honda is also taking important steps for production in Turkey.
Honda Turkey Deputy General Manager Bülent Kılıçer said that they have reached the final stage of their work for production in Turkey in response to a question at the PCX's 2025 model year Turkey launch. Kılıçer said, “The point the motorcycle market has reached is not to be underestimated. Our goal is to create a healthy motorcycle market in this country. As you know, the new customs surveillance tax has been put into effect as of February 2025 and there is an increase of up to 400 percent. As an importer company, we had started feasibility studies for production a while ago in order to gain an advantageous position in Turkey. We will discuss which model will be produced in which capacity in the upcoming period. As a brand, we are allocating 60 units of the 100-unit work to planning. These studies will be completed in a short period of time and we will make our decision for production and announce it. We plan to complete these studies in a month or two and make the official announcement.”
Although it is not yet clear which city the Japanese giant will choose for production in Turkey, it has been suggested that the Aegean Region could be preferred, as is the case with Chinese automobile giant BYD. Manisa or Izmir are the names that stand out due to their important location in terms of industrialization.
On the other hand, brand officials stated that they expect a decrease in sales due to the tax hikes, and said, "Considering that the vast majority of the market is scooters and that a large portion of this is imported, our market research continues, but as Honda, we expect a decrease of 15-20 percent... But of course, it is too early to say anything definitive. There is no decrease in demand for motorcycles, demand is increasing every day, but we see a possible decrease in the market due to price increases."
