iPhone users protest against Apple over iOS 26: "It turned my phone into a brick"

After months of anticipation, Apple released iOS 26, its latest iPhone operating system ( iOS ) update, on Tuesday at around 8:00 PM ET. Announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, iOS 26 introduced transparent, glass-like effects to app icons, the lock screen, and the home screen.
iPhone users protest batteryiPhone users have installed the update on their phones. However, the British newspaper Daily Mail reported that many already appear to be regretting their decision.
According to the report, many users reported that their iPhones' battery was draining rapidly within hours of downloading iOS 26. One user on social media platform X complained:
“I fully charged my phone, 58 minutes later and it's already down to 79%. iOS 26 is bricking my phone.”
Another user commented, "Dude, what's going on? My phone has been blazing hot since iOS 26 and my battery health suddenly dropped to 80%. I haven't changed my charging habits either."
APPLE WARNEDIn the iOS 26 release notes, Apple warned iPhone users that installing the new software could have a temporary impact on battery life.
A new support document explained that major iOS updates require background installation processes such as indexing data and files for search, downloading new content, and updating apps.
Apple also said that new features may require more resources, which could have a "minor impact" on performance and battery life.
MacRumors noted that the impact of software updates on battery life has been noted in previous support documents, but Apple has previously "not so clearly disclosed the potential battery drain after updates."
