Nearly a thousand representatives from the leading companies in the nuclear sector, the public and NGOs came together at the event. ITU Rector Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal gave a speech at the opening of the 11th Nuclear Power Plants Fair and Summit. Emphasizing that energy is at the intersection of crises, vulnerabilities, geopolitical tensions and changes, and that nuclear energy has become a necessity, Prof. Dr. Mandal stated that the approach to nuclear technologies should be reshaped with a multi-actor and multi-disciplinary system approach. Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal stated that they attach importance to being a university that produces knowledge together with the society and that they handle the entrepreneurial ecosystem, research infrastructure, human resources and social awareness with a holistic approach, and drew attention to ITU's pioneering position in nuclear technologies, which includes past and current studies.

Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal noted that ITU hosted TRIGA Mark-II, Türkiye's first and currently only university research reactor, and that this created institutional awareness for shaping the nuclear technology ecosystem in our country. Mandal stated that ITU undertook the academic management of the Nuclear Technology Development Park, which contributes to Türkiye's 2053 net zero emission target, is designed to be established as an ecosystem where young entrepreneurs can join the sector, and was implemented in line with the 2030 Industry and Technology Strategy Document. He stated that ITU is in the application phase to establish a center of excellence within the university within the scope of Law No. 6550, and that the aim is to create national capacity in a wide range of areas from design to material technology, from waste management to artificial intelligence-supported digital twin solutions through this center.
