Airline transportation is the price hike champion for August

According to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), passenger air transport was the price increase champion for August 2025. Airline tickets increased by 36.43 percent compared to the previous month and by 23.32 percent on an annual basis.
Sharp increase in newspapers and magazinesThe second-highest price increase in August was for newspapers and magazines. This group saw a monthly increase of 16.32 percent, while the annual increase reached 60.57 percent.
RISE IN BASIC FOOD ITEMSFlour and other grains also attracted attention with a monthly increase of 8.14 percent, while prices rose 35.82 percent year-over-year. During the same period, bread prices increased by 8.11 percent, representing an annual change of 38.77 percent.
PRICE INCREASES FROM CIGARETTES TO COCOACigarettes, a staple consumer item, saw a 6.36 percent increase, marking a 29.92 percent year-over-year increase. Cocoa powder experienced a significant price jump, rising 6.32 percent month-over-month and 67.20 percent year-over-year.
BREAKFAST PRODUCTS AND PET SERVICESMeanwhile, breakfast cereals topped the list with a 5.92 percent monthly increase, bringing the annual increase for this product group to 42.01 percent. Veterinary and other pet-related services saw a 5.80 percent increase, representing a 47.96 percent annual increase.
HIGH PRICE INCREASE FOR MARGARINE AND COFFEEMargarine also stood out on the list with a 5.63 percent monthly increase and a 41.75 percent annual increase, while coffee became one of the items that strained consumers' budgets the most, with a 5.53 percent monthly increase and a 67.80 percent annual increase.
