The first theater play was staged in Damascus after the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.

The play staged by two Syrian theater actors was the first show to meet the audience at the Hamra Theater after many years.

The holding of such a performance at the Hamra Theatre, popularly known as the "Syrian folk theatre" and which had been closed to theatrical activities for a long time, was considered a sign of cultural revival.

The play, staged under the banner "National Theatre," addressed political developments and social issues in the country. The play was met with great enthusiasm by the audience, and its scenes addressing social realities were praised.

Speaking to an Anadolu Agency (AA) correspondent, Ahed Dib, an actress from the Syrian Arab Theatre, said that Syria has historically been known for its art and culture.

"Whether political or social, theater is always a mirror of society," Dib said. "This play is one of the first works to become the voice of the people after the fall of the Assad regime. Hopefully, our messages will resonate even more strongly through theater from now on."

Emphasizing that theater is an art form that establishes a direct connection with the public, Dib said, "Theater is the foundation of the arts, the compass that shows direction. If theater is good in a country, the other arts are good too."

Raed Musrif noted that the play was written by Cevan Can, starring Oadi Brad, and directed by him.

Mushrif, the play's director and one of the actors, stated that theaters in Damascus need to be revitalized, saying, "Only two theaters are active in Damascus. Stages in cultural centers affiliated with the Ministries of Culture and Education should also be revitalized. Theater is the bread of life. People love this art form and embrace it."

Mushrif stated that the text, which deals with family issues, offers sections from the audience's daily life.

Said Davass, one of the attendees at the event, stated that political messages could be conveyed more clearly through theater in the coming period, saying, "We are currently in a nascent period. Over time, we will weigh the balances and present stronger critiques on stage. We have high hopes and are very optimistic about the future."
