Restoration completed, will open on Friday

The Silahtar Abdurrahman Ağa Mosque in Üsküdar, whose restoration was completed by the General Directorate of Foundations of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will be reopened for worship on February 28 at Friday prayer time.

Registered in the name of the mezbut Abdurrahman Ağa Foundation, which is represented and managed by the General Directorate of Foundations affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the mosque was built by Sultan Mustafa III's silahtar Abdurrahman Ağa in 1766. The mosque, which was repaired by Sultan Mahmut II in 1832, had its sultan's gallery added to the area where the women's gallery was located.

The contract for the "2023-2025 Implementation (Restoration) Completion Work" of the mosque, carried out by the General Directorate of Foundations, was signed on November 20, 2023, and the restoration work was started after the site was handed over on November 24, 2023.

Within the scope of the restoration, the rock, stone and soil fill in the basement of the mosque was cleaned, a rubble stone wall was built between the rock and the basement and the basement was opened for use. The wooden roof, columns and carrier beams, wooden floors, ceiling coverings, railings and handrails, the preaching pulpit and the pulpit were renewed in accordance with the material.

Again, while the horizontal and vertical wooden beams on the main walls of the mosque were renewed in accordance with their material, the repair was completed by rottening the poorly maintained bricks on the rubble stone wall with brick beams after the cement-based plaster rasping of the minaret base.

In addition, the balcony flooring, railing stones, honeycomb and cone sections were renewed in accordance with the original. The toilets were taken into the ground in the garden by evaluating the landscape. As a result of the restoration applications, it is aimed that the immovable foundation cultural asset mosque will continue to serve in accordance with its purpose for centuries.
