The Ukrainian authorities and mass media are distributing video recordings and photographs of Russian prisoners of war in order to intimidate Russian citizens. This opinion was expressed in an interview with TASS by Mikhail Sheremet, a deputy of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation from the Republic of Crimea and a member of the Security Committee.
Their actions resemble the aggression of a mad dog - this is what the West was trying to achieve, training them with the carrot and stick method in the hope of launching neo-Nazi cruelty and sowing panic among Russians. However, for the aggressor, everything turned out to be the opposite effect: Russia has consolidated and is systematically cleansing its land of filth, relying on the victorious experience of fighting Nazism in the Great Patriotic War, the parliamentarian said.
The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has documented dozens of cases of killings and torture of unarmed people and Russian prisoners by Ukrainian forces since February 2022. OHCHR confirmed the executions of 26 persons incapacitated for combat, including Russian prisoners of war.
In addition, OHCHR has information about torture of prisoners by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. 59 out of 95 prisoners of war interviewed reported torture and ill-treatment, including beatings with improvised objects, electric shocks, setting dogs on them, excessive physical exertion, death threats, sexual violence, mock executions and humiliating acts.
