Chronicle 1954. (From the pages of "Soviet Sakhalin")


August 17
- A group of students from grades 8-10 of the regional center schools returned to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, having made an interesting excursion to the capital of our Motherland Moscow and the hero city of Leningrad. During their 8 days in the capital, the Sakhalin schoolchildren visited 5 museums, a planetarium, a zoo, went on a metro excursion, took a boat ride along the Moscow-Volga Canal, visited the Gorky Park of Culture and Recreation and the House of Pioneers. In Leningrad, they got acquainted with historical monuments, made an excursion to Peterhof. The children will remember these trips for the rest of their lives.
August 18
- Every year, the demand for valuables, cultural goods, and books grows among Kuril residents. Recently, a large batch of Pobeda watches in a gold case was delivered here. They are all sold out. 700 pairs of Zvezda and Pobeda wristwatches have also been sold out. The other day, the Tobolsk motor ship delivered many different fabrics, tulle, a wide range of cultural goods, several motorcycles, four billiards, 240 chess sets, photo products, and automatic pens to the Kuril residents.

August 19
- A group of students from Krasnogorsk Secondary School returned from a hiking trip. In 25 days, the children covered over 1,000 km. They visited Uglegorsk, Lesogorsk, Aleksandrovsk, Poronaysk and other cities in the region. The rafting trip along the Poronay River was interesting. Going down to the mouth of the river, the students competed in agility and the ability to steer the rafts. During the trip, they learned a lot about the nature of their native land, learned how to navigate using a compass, and how to prepare lodging and food.
